I drive up my Rhino ramps. They have no provision for extra low cars, but my stock height '84, with full spoiler, only scrapes lightly, starting up them.
After the car is in the air, or before, if you're not driving it up ramps...step one, is to disconnect the battery. All the rest will be intuitive. Good luck, and...
I just changed mine last week (87). What a PITA! The manual transmission oil lines are in the way, as well the exhaust does not leave much room.
I did it without removing anything extra, but it was an art of twisting and winding the starter to drop it through a hole to the right, between the exhaust and the body.
I understand there should be a bracket holding the tranny lines in place, if you remove the bracket you should be able to more the lines out of the way.
I put mine on an axle stand under the engine crossmember.
Sal....if you buy the plastic extensions for the ramps, you can drive up on them without scraping the front end. Since the tires are so wide, I have an assistant guide me up just in case. You can change the starter on the ramps. I wouldn't call it fun, but it isn't overly difficult.
It's a pretty simple project. No need to drop the exhaust. Be sure and disconnect the battery first. Oh and watch out with the ratchet. I slipped and broke the Knock Sensor on my '87.
You can probably make any kind of ramps work with a couple of pieces of 2x6 on each side to drive onto the ramps.
While you're under there, if you haven't changed the fuel filter now might be a good time.
