Spark knock using the Hypertech Power Tuning
I experienced very significant spark knock using the Power Tune feature, no knock using the stock tune. I expect it has a pretty aggressive advance setting, but I was still surprised by the amount of spark knock.
I am running a 52mm throttle body, K&N Filter w/open lid, TB Bypass, 160 Thermostat.
Is there some underlying issue that I should take a look at that makes me susceptible to spark knock with the Hypertech "canned tuning" ? The car was babied before I bought it. (The TB was only opening up to 2/3 WOT due to cable misadjustment). The car has 82k, probably original wires and maybe even plugs. I can definitely hear static on AM stations, so I expect to replace wires and plugs this month. Any ideas, oh wise ones? (Aside from canning the Hypercrap and investing in LT1 Edit. That will have to wait until I and my ignorance are a little less dangerous to the car and my checkbook...)
Thanks in Advance,

I'm sure the program makes spark adjustments with that as a reference.
2) Run gas with as much octane as you can get.
I am running 93 Octane.
In my 94, the manual states engine base timing is set at time of engine manufacture, and is controlled through the ECM. No adjustment is necessary except through the program.
Thanks for the suggestions, they drove me back into the manual. I am going to eliminate the simple things first, wires and plugs. I will set aside a day for that. I understand #8 is a monster.
Any other ideas?
It's easy to check with a 19 buck timing light.
You'll need to disconnect the EST wire at the distributor.....uh-oh....
Just realized sumpin.....
you've got a 94 Hmmmm opti spark......Geez I ain't got one ah'dem...
Sorry, I'm out on this one. Yo's don't work like mine.....
I'm sure someone will come in on this one and send you some good info.
Please disregard all the stuff I said.... Sorry.
Any other ideas out there?
