Tach filter ground question '86
My tach reads a constant 0 ever since the tranny was pulled to put in the new torque converter. Gordon Killebrew says that means the tach ground wire is disconnected. Where exactly is this wire, and where does it go? The book shows it goes to one of the top bellhousing bolts, but I don't see how I'm supposed to get to it. Does anything have to be removed, or is this going to be easier than I think? Thanks
I think he meant the tach wire that goes to the distributor is disconnected at the distributor. This will result in a 0 tach reading.
The tach filter on my 86 is on this wire and the tach filter is grounded to the cylinder head or bell housing. If the tach filter is not properly grounded and the wire is connected, the tach will "jump around" but it will still give you some kind of display.
Hope this helps.

Re: Tach filter ground question '86 (ToddAT)
I've got a good connection at the distributor. It worked fine until I had the tranny dropped for my new torque converter. Killebrews manual says there's a ground attached via ring terminal to the top left transmission bellhousing bolt. I think that connection was missed when everything got bolted back together. I took the car back to the shop that did it. He crawled into the pit and said he couldn't see anything. He's an acquaintance of mine and barely charged me 1/2 of his normal labor rate, so I didn't want to get to pushy about it. Which means I have to fix this myself.
So, back to the bellhousing bolt, is there any access to it?
