I made 5 passes with the G Tech Pro to see the 0-60 mph on my 90 auto.
(I think is impossible to try the 1/4 mile run in street...)
The car was without the top with windows in lower position...not the best aerodinamically ....
1st run: 6,32 sec
2nd run 6,52 sec  :nonod:
3rd run With windows up: 6,22 :mad
4th run with window up: 6,16 (best run)
5th run with window up: 6,33   :mad :banghead:
condition: 2,73 rear differential.
All runs with 85°F dry asphalt.
All runs with lot of spin of rear wheels (a lot of smoke..)
Rear tires are very old (at least 5 years) with 1/32 left in the inner side and 4 /32 on oter side of the tire. (I have a visible negative camber on the rear)
I'm not able to evitate a 30 35 long feet of black rubber on the ground...
I can feel the real power is transmitted to the ground only a couple of seconds after the start.
Comments? advices? tricks...?
Thanks

Those times are a little disappointing. I did a similar test with a G tech and ran 5.5 secs in my '89 -- six speed with 3.33. I was hoping for better, but I guess 5.5 secs isn't too bad for an engine with over 200k on it, and 2 leaking head gaskets. The only mods were an open air filter lid and a gutted MAF. On the bright side though, if you can run low 6 seconds with 2.73 gears, that's pretty respectable!
Re: Runs with G-Tech pro - 0-60 mph (Black 'n Blue)
My best 0-60 with my '87 is a 5.9, which isnt too bad since I think the "rated" 0-60 was right around 6....on a side note I had an '01 Z24 for a while with some stuff done to it and it used to run 7.3 on average
I'd say fix your car first, learn how to launch with minimal wheelspin and try on the highway.
When I had my Gtech Pro I ran low 5 second passes when I was stock with just bolt-ons, and what I used to do was get to a lightly traveled or empty stretch of highway, and go from the emergency break-down lane. I must have done 30-40 runs while I had that thing. Pretty good little device..
Then I took it to the track and ran it 3 times, with the same differences vs the track. 1.8MPH too high on the MPH, and .08 seconds too quick on the ET..
It is pretty damn accurate (If you learn to set it right at almost '0' and minimize your wheelspin.
Since then I have stepped up to the new Gtech Competition, and it is AWESOME to say the least.
It is supposed to be more accurate as it counts for wheelspin, records about 40 runs in memory, meausres, 60foot, 0-60, 330foot, 1/8m, 1/4m, RWHP/RWTRQ, gives you graphs on speeds vs time, etc.. etc...
I will be testing it's accuracy at the track hopefully this month, as I've been getting mid to low 4 second 0-60's with it.. (Hopefulyl it IS accurate) since my new mods.. :D

Re: Runs with G-Tech pro - 0-60 mph (MrNuke)
minimize your wheelspin.
That's my problem. After my head and cam change, my HP numbers actually went down according to the G-Tech. The car pulls MUCH harder than before. I can't get a good reading because I haven't found a good way to launch it without roasting the tires.
My calculated 0-60mph time is 4.6sec; that's from a 1.92sec 60' time and a 13.17sec ET.
With lots of wheel spin on launch you are giving up quite a bit.
Since I doubt you can find a drag strip around Milano, practice rolling into the throttle. Do a little brake stand and bring up RPM to pre-load the chassis. It will take some practice to eliminate wheel spin and to find clean pavement. You might do a little dry hop though just to clean off the tires.
Also set rear tire inflation to 32psi, remove the spare & jack and launch with about 1/4 tank of fuel to optomize your times.
If only I have a manual 6 speed..... My real problem is I'm not able to start with automatic transmission. If I push 1/2 the gas pedal I have tire spin...
If I gently push the gas pedal It feels like I'm going very slow..(and I think: I'm not wasting time.... tires are not spinning... and yes, only now I can push all the gas pedal....and the tires spins....).
I'm not able to start with automatic transmission.... This is the real thing.

I understand the problem; I rarely try to launch on the street (my bad luck with a cop being nearby). Even on a loose track I sometimes have to roll into the throttle instead of hammering it...it is a fine line with street tires.
What I mean is to quickly roll the throttle down fully but not to abruptly. It's sort of like slipping the clutch on a stick. With practice (maybe quite a bit) you will find just the right rate of depressing the throttle fully that will give no wheel spin yet maximum acceleration.
Good luck and let us know how those numbers improve.
To whoever asked about the Gtech COmp being worth it... just the looks and functionality is worth it. Adds a 4 stage shiftlight, totally accurate digital tach with adjustable redline, etc... I have not checked its true accuracy at the track, but I was happy to spend the money on it.
About launching an auto on the street.
If I just floor it from a stop, I'll spin all the way into 2nd.. I get like a 2.5 60foot that way with the gtech...
I preload the converter to 1800-2000rpms, and hold the brake..
WHen I'm ready to launch, I release the brake, but DON'T floor the car yet.
After I am moving, I push down on teh pedal consistently. This way I still get wheelspin, but nowhere near as much as when I just floor it hard and quick.
On the street if I do it right (not always :D ), I can get 2.0-2.1 60foots..
Practice, practice, practice..
(Just be carefull where and when you do it. Dont' do it in a residential area, with traffic, etc..etc..
I have a 90 vert vette black. Stock with 32,000 it did 6.0. Minor modes 5.8. More modes 5.3. Alot more modes 4.8. Don't know current - faster.
So maybe it's the 91 body parts that are slowing you down. Or you just need a stick. :yesnod: 0-60- I start in 2nd and end in 2nd, and I can still smoke the tires. :D
Put those traditional round vette tail lights back on and I bet you drop .5

Re: Runs with G-Tech pro - 0-60 mph (conv90)
What about launching an auto in 2nd? I just tried two 0-60 runs on the way back from the grocery store. 1st in D 7.1 2nd in 2 6.53 Both runs had tremendous wheelspin(gotta practice more) I was surprised at the amount of spin starting in 2nd gear, but I still gained over half a second. Does this hurt the tranny to do this?
Re: Runs with G-Tech pro - 0-60 mph (flyersfan1088)
Easier on the whole drivetrain. Less immediate torque. Ya gotta love all the torque these chevy v-8s put out. I used to be a high-rev foreign car guy. I don't think I could ever go back. Torque addict. :lurk:
I have found with my GtechPro, it's all in the launch. I had a personal best of 4.8secs 0-60. But, I was only able to do that once. Typically, I get around 5.3 - 5.6. Of course I am still getting used to my 3.54's that tend to generate alot more wheels spin.
Re: Runs with G-Tech pro - 0-60 mph (flyersfan1088)
I didn't think an automatic cared if you launch in 1st or 2nd, as if you launch in 2nd it will still launch in 1st and upshift at whatever rpms to 2nbd manually? Have I been runnign slower at the track due to me not manually shifting my car??
temperature makes a big difference too! hit 5.6's during day time around 70 degree's and at night being maybe 50 degrees with good pavement can pull 5.4's or maybe a 5.3 if lucky but that 3 tenths from weather is like 25hp almost! just minor mods execpt for the catless Y-pipe on my 87'.

Re: Runs with G-Tech pro - 0-60 mph (65Z01)
A stock A4 should start in 1st with any fwd gear selected; only a TransGo set up for Manual Mode would act the way I described.
No, putting shifter in 2 means the tranny is in 2nd. That's how my F-150 is, so I'm assuming the Vette is too. Starting in 2 is the only way I can get the pickup to go in the snow since it's 2wd. I just looked in the owners manual, but it doesn't say one way or the other.
If you have an auto, try launching both ways. Mine launches VERY differently depending on if it's in D or 2. I can't say exactly what's different about it, though. Just that it's different.
