I should be getting my stroker motor back next week and I'm wondering if I've got the exhaust to back it up. I've got a set of Hooker longtube headers to go with it, but everything else after that is stock LT1 exhaust. Would it be worth the $/hp to get some new mufflers, or would I need a whole new catback at this point? After paying for the engine I've not got much left to get exhaust a $1000+ catback would be out of the question, but <500 I might be able to swing and just stick to Romen for the next couple of weeks. Thanks for the input.
I would just wait and save up the money if you have an expensive one in mind, the stock catback isnt that restrictive on LT1s. The exhaust manifolds are the really restrictive part. If you like Flowmaster, you could probably swing something for ~$500-600 though.
I would not worry about it right now if I were you. I would be more focused on getting the motor back in there and tuned prior to spending the wad on the exhaust. You never know what little things you might encounter that are more important to spend the money on trying to get the car in order.
