I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem with my dad's 87 vette. I'm installing a Pioneer head unit for him, using the Soche (or something like that) wiring adaptor, and the little box needed to make the stereo work with the factory amp. I'm not new to car audio, but I'm am new to working on Corvettes, and hit a wall. On the factory stereo, there were 2 wires hooked to the back that I don't know how they work with the new unit. One is pink and the other is grey. The problem I'm having is that when hooked up according to the instructions there is no sound. The radio functions fine, just no sound. Thinking maybe the pink wire was a remote turn on for the amp, I put 12 volts to it. I got sound, but with lound steady static. So, what am I missing? Thank you in advance for any help.
Is it a bose system you're replacing? If so, there is a relay that sends power to the amps when you switch on the head unit. That may be what those wires are for.
I'm not sure. I have'nt used an aftermarket head unit with the bose system. You might have better luck posting in the Audio/Electronics forum. What is the little box you described? Is it meant to step down the signal from amplified outputs on the head unit?
i did the same thing in my 86, i don't know if you are using the bose interface module or not with the harness? but if you are it should have 4 small holes that are adjustable so when you get sound adjust your volume to a comfortable level and then with a small flat head, turn the screw in each hole until you get clean sound with out the hiss. each hole represents each speaker.
Sounds like the one, except mine has 8 holes, but the instructions say only 4 apply. I played with the screws and the hiss didn't seem to get better. I'll try again. Did you hook 12v to the pink wire as well? Am I on the right track there? And whats the grey wire for?
Haven't tried it, but I never thought of that. Ok, so most likely, thats what the grey wire is for. Now all I have to do it get sound with no static and I'm done. :banghead:
I recently installed a Jensen CD/Cassette radio in my 85. It came with a wiring harness that
was designed for the original Bose speaker system. There was a connector that the three stock wiring connectors plugged into. There was also a separate wire for the AMP power (pink I think) I got it all working but there was a slight whistling sound coming from the speakers. I was told that one or more of the Bose amps was going bad and built in ground couldn't handle it. He told me that a cheap, easy way to solve the problem was to simply disconnect the amps on each of the four speakers and just run the radio into the speakers. That also required removing the Bose wiring harness box and just direct wiring it. Works great now.
I installed the Scosche integration harness in my 92 when replacing my Bose with a JVC ~ and if remember correctly, one of the wires you mention (can't remember which) is the dimmer for when headlights are turned on.
