Bose door speaker amp question
I got my speaker and amp out. PITA!!!! I had to take the amp box apart while it was in the door cuz I couldn't get it out otherwise. I did unbolt the aluminum window frame on the inner door and slid it aside, but still didn't have quite enough room. Close, but no cigar as the saying goes.
I took a look and saw rust, yes rust on the bottom of the amp. WTF? Anyways, I took a shot of it with my webcam (cheap and crappy quality, but you can still see the rusted areas).
Is this amp fixable, cuz both door amps don't work. I tested the speakers and they work fine. If not, could I just wire the speaker up somehow without the amp in place?
First thing, I want to see if changing caps will work or not. If they do, I will. IF they won't, how can I wire the speaker up to work without the amp?
****EDIT**** Rust is on the bottom of the amp boards.

P.S., I suggest going with aftermarket equipment, cheaper and better quality. I coundn't hear my stereo with the top off on the highway, now I can..... Good Luck
ONEBAD89, I had to remove the speaker grille, and the speaker. Then , I removed the door skin and unhooked any connections (power lock, power window, blah blah). Then I took off the transparent plastic lining (vapor barrier?) and proceeded to undo the screws holding the aluminum window frame piece. I tried moving it backwards by sliding it , but could not slide it enough to get it out of the way.
First, the armrest bracket was in the way. Moved it so it wasn't, then the door handle was in the way. GRRR. I just ended up removing the screws that held the speaker box together, so it was in 2 pieces when all screws were removed. I then took the part with the amp on it out of the door frame. The speaker box had a white glue type substance on it holding it to the inside of the door which you will need to apply a little bit of pressure to release it.
I think I might try cutting the wires to the amp and just running the positive and negative wires to the actual speakers themselves. If it works, great..If not, I don't have sound coming from the door now, so it's the same thing.
I will replace sound system in the future when I have the available cash to do so. In the meantime, if I can get sound from the doors by snippin' a few wires, I'm in.

Turns out I can hear the speaker, just it's very very quiet.
Since Radio Shack didn't carry anything remotely similar to the capacitors I needed, any suggestions where I can get some?
By the way, is there any way to test the amp board to see if it's just the capacitors that need replacing, and to tell me what all is wrong with it?
