When driving normal, everything shifts normally....but.....anytime I punch it, the car revs to 6-7K RPM's and never shifts. I can recreate this but putting the car in 2nd, try accelerating quickly and try to shift to 3rd, at that time, the tranny slips and I must decelerate in order for it to shift. Is it time to rebuild? Any recommnedations if I have to rebuild?
I had a question on whether I needed a new tranny once and a transmission specialist told me that if there were pieces of tranny in the pan when I removed it, it definitely needed a new one. If there were no pieces, the prob was either just needing a new filter and fluid change or was external like a modulator, wiring, etc.
You'll have to pull the trans pan but this will tell you for sure. Or have a mechanic do a trans service and report what he finds. If there are parts in the pan when he removes it, tell him to just button it back up, charge you for the fluid and his time. Save the filter charge.
