383 help... LT1 finally blown...

It depends on how wild you want it to be, that will point you to what exactly you need. Like if you want it to be bulletproof, go all forged, but be prepared to fork over some dough. If youre never gonna go with N.O.S. or a Supercharger, you can easily go with Hyper pistons and PM rods like comes stock in the LT1.
Need power goals to pick a cam too. 383s can easily handle cams with ~220/220 duration @ .050" or bigger with no real problems. Hotcam is the LEAST id go with.
He sells a 396 kit for $1999. It consists of a Callies dragon slayer crank and Lunati pro mod rod along with a JE piston.
Clearancing the block on the LT1/4 is a real PITA. But if you send the block to Mike he will do it for $150 on his CNC machine. Well worth the price to me.
Also rod selection is critical. The Lunati Pro-Mod has a "stroker" profile that helps to minimize interference with the block and cam.

BluByU is looking for a "kit" not a complete motor.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
How hard is it to find a shop to do this kind of work? Seems pretty common to do this motor (probably second only to the 302), so how do you pick the shop to do it?
If you are thinking going to a 383, I may have some stuff to get rid of. I just bought a project car with no motor in, and with it I got the stock 350 shortblock, and a 383 shortblock. I don't know much at all about the 383, other than it has high dollar rods in it (Eagle?) and very low mileage since the build. I'm going to build the 350 for my car, and may consider parting w/ the 383 stuff. I know the rotating assembly is fine, but there there is a big  on the block. The guy I bought it from had a water problem. Could have been a head (hope not, I plan on using them on the 350), head gasket, or block. He never knew for sure. I've also got a Canton race pan ("wings" on the bottom) that has been clearanced in the front corner for the 383 install.
If you are interested in this, e-mail or IM me. I picked you out based on your post and location. I'm in Brighton.
My buddies LT1 is being picked up today. Nu-Tek is doing his 383. Do some research on them, a very reputible shop and they specialze in LT1's.
1) A NEW GM High Performance 4340 forged 3.800 stroke crank for $750+shipping.($1400 retail)-works out to be a 388ci.
2) New custom JE forged nitrous pistons with rings, pins and locks.
$400+shipping.($700-$800 retail)
3) Used Carrillo rods-perfect and guaranteed with new ARP 2000 bolts.
$495 shipped.(new- ~$1400)
4) Used 2 bolt main block.
$200+shipping.
5) New Eagle splayed 4 bolt main caps
$79+shipping.
I got $3800-$3900(retail-which would be a little cheaper by going through vendors) in parts for just about half of that + about $250 in shipping charges(the block was $150 for shipping itself). I also had the luxury of waiting for these pieces to come available as well and that makes a big difference. All total, if I didn't need the block and main caps, you would be looking at about $1700 for the rotating assembly(oh, throw in another $100 or so for bearings). And that is for some of the best that money can buy. If you can afford the time, shop around- it's out there.

But if I could do it again, I would probably opt for the 396. The extra cubes is always good in my opinion.
good luck,
joel
The only substitute for cubic inches is more cubic inches ;)
