Going to jack up the rear of the 88 this weekend to change u-joints. I have 4 ton jackstands. They stand 13.5 inches on the lowest setting. That seems like I will have to jack the rear pretty high in the air. Any input on this would be helpful. :steering:

Re: Where can I find some low profile jack stands? (TALMADGE)
For jacking the back end up, I put a 2x4 between the spare tire carrier hinges. That way I can get both jackstands under at the same time.
I think jacking only by the sides is stupid, and dangerous to leave your car teetering on one jackstand while you run around and jack up the other side.
BTW, can you even use your jackstands on the normal jacking points? I can't, it would crush the rocker panel fiberglass. I usually find a good spot inwards of that.
Re: Where can I find some low profile jack stands? (CentralCoaster)
I use my "Jack-A-Vette" to raise the rear
I don't know if this is really the best spot, but it's where I've been placing my jack stands, no problems yet, but I will also place them just inboard of where the jack locations are on the sides.
Re: Where can I find some low profile jack stands? (Steel Blue 91)
This is NOT a good place to put a jackstand. This is only an aluminum subframe component. The jacks stands really need to be on part of the steel frame. The two box spaces just in front of the rear wheels work best for me. For the front, I put them on the rails after they turn inward towards the motor.

:withstupid: That's exactly what I do too. Does anyone use the factory jacking points? Most, if not all jackstands have a grove in the top that will pinch the body into the metal, cracking it or the paint.
Some of the jacking point are right next to brake lines that could be smashed, and another is right next to the fuel line/filter. One of the stupidest things I've seen on this car so far! What were they thinking?
We should build a whole list full of this stupid crap. Oh wait, maybe not. I couldn't imagine what would happen if a Mustang guy got ahold of it and started hassling a vetter!
