Default Fuel gauge sending unit

On my 84, I got it with a full tank of fuel and the gauge was working until it got to about 3/4 of a tank. Shortly after that, I noticed it said "Full" again. After putting many more miles on the car and still seeing a "full" tank, I stopped and put some gas in it. It took almost 10 gallons, so I'm figuring it should have been reading around "half" - which would make sense since a couple days before it was reading 3/4...

I'm thinking this is likely a sending unit thing? Where is the sending unit located? Or is there something else I should look for?

Default Re: Fuel gauge sending unit (Saisling)

this had happen to me as well:
here what did to fix
1 remove gas lid and rubber liner rear deck
2 remove bolts around the filler
3 carefully remove the float and pump assembly
4 examine the float assemblyresistance coil(this assembly is sold as a complete unit! no so! just find a similair part)
5 locate from wreckers the piece that contains the resistance coil..(the float unit does not or may not look the same as the one you have but the resistance coil should look similiar) you must replace it(solder where necessary) on your assembly be carefull as you do not want to damage the coil.
6 replace in reverse

caution: dont be sparken around at any point during this proceedure
