Default Desktop Dyno.....could someone sim an engine for me

I've got an engine comming back from my mechanic the end of next week. I'm very currious as to what the HP rating is going to be. If someone would be willing to do a quick sim on it for me I'd really appreciate it.

It's an LT1. I can get the cam specs and headflow numbers but I just need to know what blanks there are to fill in. If you can help please let me know. Thanks

Hey mn_vette,

I use Dyno 2000 and I'll give it a shot if you'd like. Not sure how well it models the LT1 induction system but other than that we should be able to get close. Actual cubic inches, mechanical compression ratio, full cam card specs, head flow and type of exhaust system you'll have on it would get us a decent ballpark figure. More details like piston top type, deck height, head gasket thickness and combustion chamber cc's will tighten up the simulation a little more.

Send me what you have, I'll get you some results.

Well, I asked my mechanic for some of the numbers and he sent me a simulation that he did. He said it was the same software that GM uses(or used to use) for stuff. It looks DOS based from the print outs. His results were 496.7HP @6339 rpm and 404.6TQ @4802 RPM

Here's what he used
Cubic Inch 392.87
Compression Ratio 9.5
Piston top type Dished(I think)
Deck Hight 0.0048 in
Combustion Chamber 58cc
Cam specs 230/231 @0.050 544/554 lift with 1.6's and 113LSA
Headflow numbers, I've got somewhere, but can't really find them but he said he reflowed them and they were around 270-280@28in of water.

Exhaust consists of Hooker supercomp long tubes, no cats, and stock catback.

This probably won't be enough info, but it's all I got, if it can't be done oh well, it was worth a shot.

Any thoughts about how close the above hp/tq numbers are????

Hey mn_vette,

FWIW, here's what Dyno 2000 comes up with based on the info you gave.

RPM H.P. Torque
---- ---- ------
2000 168 441
2500 218 459
3000 276 483
3500 336 505*
4000 379 498
4500 411 479
5000 422* 443
5500 409 390
6000 374 327
6500 329 265

When I saw the cam specs you gave I figured this motor would be better at building torque than horsepower. With 230 duration @ .050 spread out over a 113 LSA this indicates to me that the overlap would be minimal as big cams go, a good thing if you want lot's of torque at a reasonable rpm. As you can see, the HP vs. TQ results are slanted more towards bigger torque numbers than high rpm horsepower. This is opposite what your builder's software shows so take it FWIW, I didn't write the software. I will say that I have done extensive cross-checking of real world dyno runs on well documented SBC buildups and find Dyno 2000 to give very comparable results. I have a reasonable amount of confidence in this program.

Either set of HP and TQ numbers, or anything in between, would be a very strong motor. Personally I think the torque is more important if you are using this car on the street and using a converter that stalls below 3000 rpm. (or is it a manual?) I can't believe that your combination would make it's peak's at such high rpm's as your builder's software suggests, just my humble opinion.

So there you have it. Good luck and I hope it turns out to be just what you're looking for once it's under the hood.

Holy Torque Number Batman!!!

I didn't expect the two estimates to be off by that much! But that's a lot of torque. I'm running a auto tranny thats getting rebuilt as well. I was told the stall would be around 2700. But I also have the 2.59 rear end still. That torque would go great with it! If it holds up....

Once I get the engine broken in I'm going to get it dynoed and we'll find out for sure. But even if this program is kinda close , 400tq@2000rpm....I'll have to put on drag slicks to go to work!

Thanks for the run, look for a post in a month or so when I get it dynoed.
