Hey has anyone had any experience with hedman hedders? they are cheaper than the competitors and have the EGR fitting for emissions. Is it a case of you get what you pay for, or are they worth it?
I used these headers for years....alum. coated....they lasted and worked well...of course that was on my '69 vette...but should still stand....
They worked fine...and save a few $$$$$$$$$$$$....from the Hooker's...

Re: Hedman Hedders (Black91L98)
I just installed a set on my L98 (1989) I think they work great. I do not have the emmissions stuff on them. They are regular straight 1 5/8 full length headers. I took the emmission stuff off. I still passed inspection. I results of the emmission test was still low without the pollution stuff and the full length headers.
Out here in Southern CA.....I would never get away with in in the smog tests....would really hang me.....
Not Smog Legal In SOUTHERN CA.....
no matter what......
I would not take the chance for an extra 10 to 15 Horse Power....
Wish I could...
Glad you passed..
Good Luck

I have the Headmans on now and the only issue I've had so far is a fitting problem from the #8 primary. Yes, the flange is thin. I'd recommend the TPIS or Hooker's.

Have you a part # of Hedman headers for L98 w/smog stuffs???
Thanks

68447 is the number on the Hedman site http://www.hedman.com/pages/hedmanmain.html
i think there is a suffix you can add for ceramic coated. I know that summitracing.com carries these headers...coated and not coated

I had them on my '68 Camaro. They worked ok, but did tend to leak faster then I thought they should. Also, the finish does not hold up well. I think that the Hooker's are a better quality.
Hey, do any of you have a product number/location where I can find hooker headers for a 91 vette-with the smog settings? i know that lingenfelter engineering carries a set, but theyre 800 bucks...ouch
I realize that there are better quality headers on the market, but these were all that I needed and they were only $109 from summit which fit perfectly into my budget.
if you have an extra $600 then get hookers, plus most of us don't really require 1 3/4" headers for the street and occasional drag race, 1 5/8" are better for most of us. just my $.02
I had a set of Hedman's for 30 days and took them off. Never could get them to stop leaking and spitting. We tried all kinds of stuff. After they were off, sitting on the bench, we were b---hing about them and an old racer ambled by, glanced at them and mumbled "put a straight edge on 'em". We did, the flange was bowed!
Hedman gave me a refund, but was a hassel. Very happy with my Hookers, six months with out a leak!
I've been running Hedmans for over 3 years. They're not that bad, the coating hasn't thinned out except teh bottom from road debris. The only problems I've encountered is a leak at #4, header needs to come out in order to take out #2 & 4 plugs, and the collector area touches the floor pan. If I had teh extrbutt$ I would have gone with Lings. But at least they work.
The flanges sucked.
The passenger collector hits the floor pan.
The collectors are totally crap! They ended up bending, they are not thick enough for my liking.
They hang too low and drag on everything.
I have battled leaks on them. it started on the drivers side. it was freaking out my O2 sensor. so I moved it over to the passenger side. that side started leaking causeing my car to not run right.
I think I put 3 sets of exhuast gaskets on it durring that time dealing with leaks.
One trick was to glue 2 gaskets together and run it like that.
They are in general low quality poopie.
If your on a really tight budget, I'm sure they will give you a bit of fun while they last, they did for me.
once a leak starts, they will cause you hell if they effect the O2 readings. I tried to pull out from a light and it would buck and kick unless I went to WOT.
