Targa top
Does any one know if you can take the targa top front mounting plates off an early 86 and install them on a late 86-96 top. There are a lot of targa tops out there that are late 86 to 96 but the mounting plates are different and the top will not fit a early 86.Ebay has the mounting hardware for a 84 to early 86 and if they are interchangeable with the newer tops they would be worth buying.

First things first.... :) There are 3 models of tops.
1. 84 - 86 Early
2. 86 Late - 88
3. 89 - 96
In order to use a top not made for your year of car you need to install the correct mounting hardware along the top of your windshield frame. I'm not sure if anyone has ever tried changing the mounting plates in the top itself.
