Calif Smog/Headers,Lets talk about it
i dont like this one bit. i have hooker long tubes on my car, and so do several other guys i know. yesterday i spoke to a guy on the phone at the california air resorces board. he said they(the smog *****) are talking about smog testing everywhere, including counties that are now exempt. Can we still make an L98 run like hell without headers turbo or NOS? :(

I guess I leaned something new as I thought all of California was under the CARB umbrella and no one was exempt.

You can get your late L98 well into the 12s by doing a "cheater" front Y, cat & cat-back along with some intake mods, heads and cam.
Is there a path with the CARB for you to have a FL header setup tested and certified without mortgating the farm?

Well, you can put a Superram on it, its CARB legal. But then you might not call it an L98 anymore.

There's no smog testing in the Fresno area??? Interesting, maybe the central valley Congressman who blames the bay area for the bad valley air should take some notes. That's just wonderful. :rolleyes: Sorry for ranting. :crazy:

How about gettin some heddman style (non-equal length) headers, that drop straight down, like the stock exhaust does? Then you could fabricate a little heat shield and a fake flange there.. so you could pass visual.
That sounds like the best way to go long tubes without having to swap headers twice every two years.

That's not so bad. What is scary(to me anyways) is them doing roadside infrared sampling. I'd be toast if I go thru one of those. My low flying aircraft would be grounded :(
