I have owned my CE LT4 (first vette) about a month and the clutch has seized up. I am now in need of a new clutch kit and I'm not sure if the OEM clutch is the way to go. My car has hotcam, headers, ported heads and intake and 4:10 gears.
Can the OEM clutch handle the additional power of produced by these mods? The current clutch was stock with a McLoed pressure plate. A previous owner told me it dynoed at 365hp.
Would a trip or two a year to the drag strip and possibly a set of drag radials make difference in my clutch selection? I don't beat on the car, but power is too much of drug not to go thru the gears every now and then.:D
I had great experiences with the McCleod street/strip clutch. This was with a single mass flywheel. They make the clutch disks for either single or sotck dual mass though. FWIW, all C4 ZF6 pressure plates are made by Valeo.
A few pointers:
1) Avoid SPEC clutches. :mad
2) you cannot resurface the dual mass flywheel. if you are drag racing, stay with the dual mass, road racing, single mass.
3) get new hydrolics. Cheap insurance.
4) Install beam plates and do ujoints, too... might as well!
5) Replace the rear main seal, too.
6) Consider an aftermarket shifter, easier to do with the tranny out!!!
:iagree: Spend the extra money and get the McLeod.
