I have 96 lt4, The guy dyno tuning the car ( I hope he is not on this forum) seems to really know about programing, but seems scared to mess with anything more than fuel....Can you change fuel curve and timing to get more power with lt1 edit??? The car has pulled good numbers and everyone seems to think I should be happy, I think there should be more there....Am I being unreasonable?? I had to buy another computer and all we have done is lean it out a little because of the bigger injectors.....Thanks....
You really need to get the car on a dyno w/ a wideband O2 sensor and watch the A/F ratio while tuning. Given your cam, I'd think you would really need custom dyno tuning. I bet you'd get a decent hp/tq gain and better driveability.
We did dyno the car with wideband O2......But the only changes we made once putting in the parameters of the injectors and displacement, where to lean it out......I thought we would have changed curves and messed with timing and really done alot...when I asked this guy he said it was running better AF ratio this way. the car is eaisier to drive and picked up 12 hp over the ed wright program I was running......I just can't believe there would not be more to tune out of it with the computer......If you guys say I should shut up and be happy or I need a bigger bottom end for my heads I will do it.......Is 400rwhp possible out of a 355 bottom end??????
I would think if you are paying for the time, it makes sense to try and add a little timing to see how the car reacts. Some of the them like more timing, some like less. I took a lot of timing out of my maps and it felt like it ran better. I did not tune it on a dyno to verify but my readings show it looks pretty good.
You may be leaving between 5 and 10 on the table. Nothing really substantial unless you are at 395 rwhp looking to get 400.
A nice smooth curve will run better than one that gets better peak numbers but not as much power at lower RPMs. It is a give and take. The more peak numbers you try to get, the less bottom end you usually will have.
378 out of a 355 with LT4 heads and a 306 cam is about right on the mark +-10 IMO.
I think your #'s are pretty good. Ed Wright does a pretty good job of programming and if this guy tweaked the Ed Wright program and got even more than you are probably pretty close. Can you post a pic of the dynograph and the AFR?
I have the dyno hp and tq (corrected charts) I have not yet been able to get pictures uploaded on this forum......Somebody said I needed my own site and then a link or something; Any way I can e-mail you a scanned copy.....If interested....
