I have a 93 LT1 and I am wondering about taking the cats off and going with off road pipes, but I'm thinking I need a oxygen simulator. Is this the case or will it be ok without the o2 sensors? I have tried to find the sims for sale on the web but no luck, they are single wire and all I have been able to find are 4 wire sims. Any ideas?
Thanks
I believe on the 93's the O2 sensors are before the cats. You must have them for the car to regulate air to fuel ratio. I think a better idea would be to install high flow cats and a good cat-back exhaust. You get about the same results as removing them, and you don't have to worry about any future sniff tests.
I don't like the the idea of sims, they just tells the ecm what is wants to hear not what is actually going on with the AFR. You can leave the stock down pipe in place with O2 bungs and just cut out the cat and install a short pipe.
Don't use the sims. They will not allow the computer to do what it needs to do. I have an exhaust guy tell me that is what I am suppose to, should be running. What an idiot. When I started asking him how the ECM worked he didn't even know what open and closed loop meant. :lolg:
With obd1 you can take your cats off without having to worry about your O2's..(as long as they are still there)...The only rumor is that it may take longer for the sensors to warm up due to less restriction by the cats....let that baby air out...as long as you do not have emmissions testing..Good luck
