hi everybody
just fitted a lowering kit to my 93 just placed the wedges into the front spring brackets! but i am not sure what to torque them to take in account the spring brackets are only cast so i need to br carefull....
any ideas guys
hi kevin
thanks for getting to me i have put the wedges in but it doesnt seem to have dropped much the rear has looks good just a bit disapointed about the front!!
by the way your car looks cool and it looks like you have the right type of roads over there!!!
STUVETTE about how long did it take you? And about how much in the front did it drop? I am about to put vette in the air in the morning and it won't come back down for a while since I plan on doing abunch of mods including shifter and lowering kit.
the front took about 30-40 minutes to do im still not sure how much it has lowered yet about 1/2" so far but now i driven it a while i might have to tighten them some more. remember dont over tighten the brackets as they are made from cast and can snap!! the rears were easy i ended cutting through the end links because they were to hard to come apart but when you gt those new bolts in can really lower that back end..

Re: lowering kit wedges!! (stuvette)
I don't know about you stuvette, but it takes us normal people 4 hours or so to drop the front end.
I got 5/8" drop in front. Not much to some, but its exactly what I wanted. I question the claims of some that say they dropped 1.5", since that's not possible with the kit.

I'm not sure he did it right........you have to remove the front spring to lower the frontend. Because you have to cut the old rubber blocks off the spring to replace it with the new ones. And it takes a good 4-5 hrs to do this. :yesnod:

hi
i wonder because the time you said it took you to do i wonder if i havant done mine correctly i hope im one of the normal people!! i didnt get any instructions with the kit...
When you guys lowered your, where did you glue the wedges? I thought I remembered gluing them onto the spring on my 96 years back. I'm now working on a 93. I bought a VBP spring and there are "lowering" wedges already glued to the spring. However, I pulled out the instructions from the kit I put on my 96 and it said to glue them to the frame. Maybe the guys that got lots of lowering left out the wedges completely. Or you could probably shave the wedges down thinner if you wanted a bigger drop. Or I seem to remember reading that you can get a bigger drop if you also make the rubber pads on the end (that contact the lower A-arm) thinner.
I had pro's do front and back, $20 in parts, $500 in labor, to drop a half inch. Took them about 4 hours, they said they would never do it for $500 again. Replaced the wedge and removed one of the shims/brackets. Z07's sit high so it was needed. :steering:

I've heard both methods. It should work the same either way. With that being said, my Mid America kit said to glue them to the spring.
It seems like that would be better for the spring. Glueing them to the frame would put the load over a smaller area on the spring. I'd feel better with that on the metal side.
I used the VBP Lowering kit. The VBP wedges were glued on to the spring exactly where the stock wedges were removed. I also removed 2 of the stock shims to give it an additional 1/4"- 1/2" drop...well worth the time and effort!
