How did you plug the timing cover hole and did the pump drive shaft attached to the engine come out?
If you want to plug the hole in the timing cover, you have to remove the waterpump driveshaft. To do that, you have to remove the timing cover. To do that...
You don't need to plug the hole (it has a seal the driveshaft passes through). I had my engine torn apart for a cam swap so I did. I also figured that by plugging the hole, it was one less seal I had to worry about leaking in the future.
You have to take the timing coveer off to get the gear out of the timing set for the water pump. It also is pressed into the block and you wll have to work it out with some gentle persuasion.
I used a freeze plug that was not quite the right size, but close for a while. That last optispark change I had to figure out something else as it fell out. I JB welded a 50 cent peice into the space.
