I have 2.59's and want change. 3.54's are too much 3.07 are not enough and 3.33's are just what I want. :yesnod:. Do you guys know where I can get these and show much they will help my 1/4 times.
Since you ask about times it soumds like you are going to drag race so instead of changing gears change the whole thing a 44 will have the 3.33 gear set in it and it is a lot stromger. Money spend on a 36 to drag race is a waste of time and money

Good news :D and bad news
There were 3.31 gears available for the D36. I've heard differing stories on whether they existed as a factory option for one year or only as an option that was ordered for switching to. At any rate they were available directly from GM and are an excellent gear choice for anyone not wanting to go as high as a 3.54 or 3.73. I know, because I changed my 2.59s to the 3.31 gear set.
Bad news is they are HARD to find and were discontinued a number of years back. I suppose it's possible to find a ring/pinion just sitting in a dealer's parts bin somewhere, but otherwise you'll need to hope that a Vette owner with a 3.31 rear is wanting to change over to something else. I looked for over a year before I found a complete D36 with 3.31s.
Another option is to switch to the D44 .... stock gears are 3.45 which is pretty close. And the 3.07 is not a bad gear choice plus it's more readily available.
You dont really need lower than 3.07, if you want to drop your times, buy a torque converter with about 2000-2200 stall (if you drive it daily, up to 2400 for a more serious drag car that gets occasional use).

I had the exact same thoughts as you. I spent months looking for a 3.36/3.31 set for Dana 36 and finally found it at Motive Gear. But, alas, it would only fit a case that had 3.07 or numerically higher to start with. So I settled for a complete 3.07 rear and got a great deal on a 9000 original mile unit. It made a nice difference but for the street I think I would have been happier with the 3.31. Mine's a stock '88 except for a 2500 converter.
