88 hard to start - !@#$%^&*( 1:33 PM 6/8/2003
I continue to have a hard to start problem when my C4 is cold. I thought it would be the fuel pressure but checked it yesterday and it jumps almost to 40# and holds for hours afterwards. So, not that I don't think!
I noticed that when I pulled the plugs last, they were pretty gunked up like it is running very rich. Any ideas.
I did a search on the archives but they seem to focus on the fuel system. Mine seems fine. Could it be the ECM and how do I check it. Any ideas will be very appreciated.

You might want to check your Cold Start valve and sensor. The cold start valve introduces extra fuel while cranking the engine and is independent of the ECM and based on your starting system.

What is it doing? Is it firing at all?

Also check the coolant temp sensor in the block under the TB; that's the one the ECM uses to establish closed loop mode.
You can use a paper clip and the test method on my site to see if the ECM is going into closed loop.

Thanks for the help. Yes the car is firing but acts like its starving for gas. It will finally start but takes a while if the battery holds up. Almost like the choke isn't working which it isn't because it doesn't have one. I thought of the cold start injector but read where some folks are taking it out all together since it only works below certain temps which is not the case here in SC. Any ideas????
