Quick help needed, EGR

Am replacing the EGR on my 90 L98. Just pulled the old one and the old gasket looks as if some type of sealer was used. Or that could have just been the coating off of the old gasket. Gasket is a metalic type of material.

So, is a gasket sealer needed? If so what type?

Need quick response as am ready to install the new EGR.

HELP!

I think it might of just been the surface of the gasket peeling off. Mine didn't have any sealer that was noticeable.
