Default Camshaft selection for L98 w/ LT1 manifold

Looking for a cam for my 89 L98 that has the Lt1 intake manifold on it. (just about done with that conversion!!) Car has Full length headers, custom mandrel dual exhuast, Custom burned ECM chips (by me), NO emissions, Raim air kit, and the usual bolt ons. The heads are stock. Including the valves, springs, rockers etc. I don't know if i should just put some 1.6R on it and leave it alone, or do a came with 1.5, or do a cam and 1.6R. i'm pretty sure our L98 cam specs are: .413/.428 114.5seperation with 202/207duration @ .050" Lingenfelter stresses that with the stock "small" valves, holding the vavle open "longer" will help. That's why all the LPE cams have 217, 220 in that area of duration for the L98's. I also see a lot, 98% of most cams seem to be 112 degree seperation.... With My LT1 intake manifold...i'll be reving a lot higher...like 6,000 or 6,500. and I'm also putting a 2,500 stall converter in next month. so with a 2,500stall, and LT1 manifold.... i don't know. any tips on this cam thing?? Oh, i also don't care about gas mileage... 1/4 is my priority. I have the stock 2.59 gears...but they're eventually going to D44 3.54's or 3.73's.

Sounds like you wanna rev. If you're gonna stick with a 2500 rpm stall then I'd pick a cam with an int dur in the area of 230* @.050" lift. WAIT - Just noticed that you're running stock heads so scratch that. Maybe an LPE 74219 would work okay. Those heads are going to hold you back big time. So are the stock valvesprings. How do you feel about upgrading that stuff?
Just my $.02.

If he has D-Ports, I'd get a small porting job donew on them for a few hundred dollars. That's what i was gonan do to my aluminum heads I was getting (But I am not getting them anymore). With those mods I would NOT get an LPE 219 cam. That is made for the superram's Torquey-ness. I'd go with an LT4 or even an LT4 hotcam if you get the heads ported and done up..

Something bigger, like the ZZ409/Hotcam should work great (or a Comp Cam with similar specs). You will want more rear gear with these.

i know upgrading the valves and springs is needed.... but i might just all new heads to start with. what exactly is involved in going to the larger cams.... like do i need to replace "just' the springs, or maching is required...b/c i don't want to remove the heads off the car. If i do, it's gonna be more than just springs.
