Hey all. I am building up a heads/cam engine and want to know
1) Can the stock '89 radiator handle 400 hp?
2) Can one of these radiators be repaired properly - I have a leak from the lower corner, I just havn't identified if it is the plastic part or the Aluminum
I am installing a new waterpump while the radiator is out and a new 160* T-stat. I would like to save the $$
If the answers to the above are "no", what are you all using and how much did you pay? THANKS!
If the radiator and cooling system are in excellent shape, and have been well cared for should have no problems.....here's an idea...Run a FlowKooler water pump...and add some waterwetter....
Should be fine...
tony

Thanks Tony. I did order a Flowkooler waterpump. I've never heard of it until I read about a couple of people using them on the forum. So I took a chance and ordered one!
I'm running about 325-330HP according to the Desktop Dyno 2000. And without the thermo I cruise down the freeway running about 150F this time of year in CA. Seldom do the fans come on unless I'm sitting in the drive-thru at a fast-food joint.
But your car is old enough to just get a new radiator the way I did. It's about $120-$130 on the Net. A radiator repair shop will charge you $100 to take the end caps off, repair your leak, clean the aluminum core and put it back together. A ban-aid would be to just run a can of stop-leak if the leak is small.
Big Jim, since I am spending mucho $$ already, I decided on a good replacement. I looked all around and ended up talking to Dewitts. They are custom making me a two row for the same price as a Griffin.
