Default Ive got brake problems please help!!

My 89 vette has good brakes but when i race it at the racetrack (1/4 mile) when the brakes get hot i find myself with no pedal pressure at all (almost) i would need to change gears to slow down (auto), my mechanic told we could change the brake fluid but he told me also that if its the master cylinder the problem when we are going to change the fluid im going to find myself with no brakes as the master cyl. will not work because of the new fluids.
The vette has only 12000 miles on it, its previous owner used to store it a lot . could this be the culprit? :chevy

I believe that the brake fluid is contaminated and needs to be changed. Why would this effect your master cylinder?

J55 (13" rotor)or Jl2 (12" rotor) ?

If it is the 12" flavour, it is probably nothing to do with the fluid. Those brakes are crap. They fade big style.

If its the J55, need to know a bit more about this fluid change. unless you have mixed in DOT 5.0 (silicon), all the others mix ok.

Contaminated With what?
Contaminated with moisture - if the fluid hasn't been flushed every few years it will have picked up enough moisture to lower it's boiling point.

 Besides the boiling point issue, moisture induces rust in the master and wheek cylinders especially in a car that sees little use!

Drain the brake fluid annually :D

The simplest thing to do is remove all fluid from the system, add a quality fluid with a high boiling temp (I recommend Valvoline synthetic DOT4), bleed the brakes, and see what happens next time at the track. This will cost you no more than several dollars for the fluid and an hour of time for you and a buddy.

If you dont upgrade your calipers and rotors maybe atleast upgrade your pads. Ofcourse after you do the fluid as mentioned above.

Maybe, but more then likely its just your brake pads.
Stock OEM brake pads fade VERY fast when they get hot.
Scared the sheet outta me a couple of time.
