Guys - was planning on doing the shift kit today and went through the video and instructions again. I went out and checked the transmission and in the part where they talk about the 2nd and 4th Band Adjustment (with the new piston and housing) and my trans doesn't match the video...
I have a black sealed cover where they're talking about removing the pistions with the snap ring. I'm sure I have a 700R4 and the kit I got was for the 700R4. What gives? TIA! :)

The black cap without a snapring sounds to me like the govenor cover.. the 2/4 band apply piston is more towards the front of the trans case should be on the passanger side next to the TV cable. There is a snap ring on it and also to remove the cover you should cut the o-ring seal and pull one end of it out then the cover should come off..
Like I've tried to say...this mod is beyond the normal do it yourselfer...Like if you mess up just one thing...you've burned up your tran's..lots of bucks to replace...right.....
Like how sure are you?????
I will tell you the truth...I'm a good backyard mechanic......but mesing with the tran's......well...Just let me say that I've seen too many of my fellow vette friens get into trouble doing these mod's....
So needless to say....I want the install...but I will leave it to a pro....

:iagree: BUT>>> myself, I was wanting the challenge to do what other won't....I spent 1/3 of the cost of a pro rebuild and I can now pat myself on the back for a job well done(at least for the moment haha). I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.....way too much to screw up unless you have a lot of time and patience.

I guess I'm beyond the normal do-it-yourselfer then. I took my time, followed the directions, and everything turned out fine (for the time being). The reason I had trouble locating the 2-4 band components is because they were hidden by the passenger side cat (which came down with the cat back). Once that was out of the way, it was a snap to get to.
Oh, and I'm also building a 396 on the side for next year... ;)

Living on the edge, baby. You're right, everyone has to seek his own level of competence and getting in over one's head can be bad. But I do know plenty of people that have bonded with their cars doing this mod in a garage with the jackstands and DIY toolsets.
