Information on location for temperature sender, 700R4
I recently did a search on where to put the temperature sender for reading the transmission fluid temperature for an aftermarket gauge.
Several posts had been made by several other forum members inquiring of the same. Some went unanswered, others suggested teeing the ouput line, or brazing a bung in the pan.
Was at Goodguys Show in Indianapolis yesterday, and inquired at some of the professional vendors in upgrading the transmissions as where is the best location?
They mentioned the plug fitting on the drivers side, above the shift lever as the location where they put the sender if the customer orders it.
Also inquired as to which is the port out/return on the passenger side:
port out--- bottom
port return---top
Hope this helps some people, I was thankful for their information.

In one of the recent Vette mags, there was a article where they placed two sending uints, one before an external cooler and one after it, with a toggle switch wired to a single gauge, so that you can see the temp before and after the cooler on the same gauge. Sounds like a plan.

I would put it on the line coming OUT of your transmission going to the cooler. That way you know how hot things are getting inside the unit instead of how hot things going into it are.

I'll take a pic of mine, when I can get the car in the air.

Mines going into the pan. Inlet? Outlet? Whats the difference? Are you going to watch this more than your tach? The compaision of temps is as, or more inportant than the accuracy of the reading. In the pan, it will read what the pick up is sucking up. In an, in or out, cooler line, or a tap in the trans case, just make sure the sensor doesn't block the flow of fluid. My trans sensor and engine oil temp sensors will be on a toggle stitch, so I can read either from the stock, in dash, guage. Good luck, and...
