My dealer has told me I have to replace my FX 3 actuator and a Billstein shock. Cost $1400..... I can locate the shock but have had no luck on the actuator. Is there a low cost option? :nopity
actuators are like gold........someone may have a couple hanging around........try a salvage yard......they can be had for $100 bucks or so......1400 is....
Shop around you'll be able to find some........do a search for corvette salvage yards.......go from there
They haven't had them in stock for over a year. AC Delco bought the remaining stock from Bilstein and that's who has them all. If you order them new from anybody, that's who they're getting them from...
When I took off my actuators, there were broken gear parts inside the actuator , but the actuator motor still turns when the car turns on. Were the broken gears part of the shocks, or part of the acturator, or the retaining assembly? Thanks
The broken gears are part of the actuators. I have one that is broken but we glued it back together. To make sure everything is functioning, hook a paper clip between your A-B connectors on the ALDL. If all you get is a code 12 (3 times) you're good to go...

Mike,
I'd be really interested, and appreciative, if you would post (or better yet create a tech tip) on how you repaired the actuator. Half of mine have the cracked plastic, but otherwise appear to work fine.
Make sure you keep the gear off of the top of your old shock. It can be removed by punching out a tiny pin. These break from time to time. Since you cant buy just the gear by itself you have to buy a new shock. I would suggest you look on ebay. I was able to get a new shock and an actuator for 170 bucks. I had to modify the pigtail though because it was a rear actuator. They have shorter pigtails. Easy to do though.
I meant to add http://www.dougrippie.com/ to the above post. However I just got off the phone with them and they also do not have any more actuators. He said they may have some of the retaining cups and some other misc fx3 hardware, but as far as he knew, the dealers were the only source. Bummer.
