I have an 91' coupe, when I bought the car the LTPW light was on, the owner informed me that when the aftermarket rims were put on the car, the low tire pressure sensors were not hooked up. I checked my codes, the only code I get is a 99 code. My question is, can these sensors be hooked up, if not, how can I reset the light, so it won't go on.
Re: Help, low tire pressure warning system light on (66snow)
When I bought my '92 in 2002, my LTPWS light would come on after about 20 minutes of driving (as designed if the sensors fail to report-in to the reciever).
But now, my light no longer comes on.
I think the sensors have a battery in them and if they ALL fail to signal, the LTPWS light WILL NOT come on. I believe the batteries in my sensors have ALL died, because I no longer get the light.
Re: Help, low tire pressure warning system light on (onedef92)
According to my service manual, the sensors are powered by the vibration created by the rotation of the wheel, Piezo-electric batteryless way of generating electricity. No batteries.
Re: Help, low tire pressure warning system light on (66snow)
(' :iagree: '); Piezo components generate an exitation when put under physical stress. Bumps in the road cause this exitation which likely charges a small capacitor. The capacitor keeps the sensor powered. The capacitor will eventually discharge but will be recharged by the piezo component when driving.
Gees, maybe this graduate degree did learn me somethin!
