lt4 conv. worth the $?
i am planning to pull the motor out of my 92 and freshen it up and replace the heads and cam with either afr heads or i was thinking of the lt4 conversion kit that gm sells for around $2000. the kit comes with the hot cam, roller rockers, heads, intake and all gaskets to do the job. this does not sound like that bad of a deal since the afr heads are around $1700 alone. my other option is to have the stock heads ported but then i am going to be faced with alot of down time which i hate! has anyone done this swap and is it the way to go?? any opinions would ba appreciated!!! :thumbs:

Check in the for sale section. I believe there are a set of ported heads and rockers for sale. That will save on down time then sell your heads on ebay. Make sure that hot cam will work on our ( I have a 92 also) earlier lt1's without changing timing cover and opti to newer style. Keep us posted on what you do. Or atleast me because that is direction I will be heading soon. :thumbs:

I have just had the heads replaced with AFR ported heads, LT4 ported intake, and additional custom work on my 94. The car is much faster now, lost some mpg, but am going to try different plugs to see if that will help. A word of warning about the AFR heads, it took at least 10 weeks to get them once they were ordered. I would have tried the LT4 heads & hot cam kit, but it is not street legal in California. Pace Performance parts seems to have a good package. I would expect you to get about the same performance gains as I achieved. I'll find out more in a couple of weeks, at the draggs at the WSCC convention.
