Default Overheating problems?

A couple days ago my car overheated (boiling out of the over flow, gauge read 132C), couldn't get it home so I leave it at my mechanic's. He replaces a rad hose (WTF?). Today I got the car back and took it for a long drive. The tempurature started to get up there but I shut the car off before it got hot. I checked the overflow and it didn't seem to be high or really hot. Could there b something wrong with the temp sensor for the gauge? where is it? BTW, I get no heat from my heater, I assume my heatercore is blocked. Could this be causing my problems? Should I either bypass it or remove it? Thanks.

Have you checked the area between the radiator and A/C condenser? These cars are like vacuum cleaners and gunk will build up in there preventing proper airflow. Also, you may want to change the thermostat as it may be failing.

If the heater core is plugged, the radiator might be too. Try flushing everything, though getting the heater core unplugged can be a daunting task. Also, check compression - a leaking head gasket causes galvanic corrosion that blocks coolant passages and water boiling out of the overflow tank can be a symptom of exhaust gasses in the coolant.

Did he replace the thermostat? It might not be opening at all.

Clean the front of the radiator, flush the system and refill.

Is the water pump leaking from the front?

 These heater cores do seem to be susceptible to blockage. You can do a simple flush of the heater core (through the two hoses). Coolant flows through the heater core at all times, so, yes, the blocked heater core could contribute to reduced flow.

Mine at least, goes through thermostats about once a year, don't know why, but the stick in partial open condition.

Comments about cleaning in front of the Rad are very valid...of course, you will have to remove the cover over the Rad to do this. You can't clean between the Rad and AC condensor unless you do. Once you have gone that far, might want to remove the RAD and clean and wash the fins.

Try a 160 thermostat too!
