it sounds like a piece of ribbion broke off inside of motor i just replaced my mast. it cost me $29 it camewitha tool to take off ring under rubber seal on it was in somtimes mine sticks up some times it doesn't.It allways goes down witha little help.Whatever you do do not oil it it will only get worse .Turn on radio and wipe it down clean cloth.
I replaced the mast first and it wouldn't go all the way in. But I think the local dealer sold me to long of a mast. Bummer because I couldn't get it out once in. So after that I ordered an entire antenna from Superior Chevrolet and that mast works perfectly but is shorter than I thought it should be. At any rate the top of the antenna is higher than the convertable top so maybe coupes have a higher mast. Hence the first mast wouldn't go all the way down. Anybody know how to get a new mast out of the Antenna?
I agree that you've probably got a bit of broken ribbon jammed in your antenna motor gear case. The only way to fix is remove your antenna motor, open the case, remove the broken section of ribbon and thread the new mast down the hole once you've installed the motor.
