Default Flushing the cooling system.

I'll be flushing my own cooling system on my 94 on Friday afteernoon...
I have the Dexcool and Red Line's water wetter ready and I'll be flushing lots of water through the system  any other tips I need to know for this project? I'll also be vacuuming out the radiator area.
Thanks Larry :steering:

They say you have to remove both knock sensors to get all the coolant around the water galleys in the block. But, I found a low-tech, lazy man's way that works just as well with less hassle.

With the radiator opened up to warm (operating) temps. open the petkock. Then, using a shop vac hose attached on the BLOWER side, take the hose and place it over the radiator tank and let the air BLOW the water out of the system.

Once it's all out, close the petkok and refill with water. Open the petkock and repeat! Works great and blows all lthe water out really well! Just be sure and bleed the system by opening the bleeder screws located near the water inlet hose.

Why do you want to use DEXCOOL? I've heard no particular benefits about it and I've heard a few horror stories.

I'd add pull radiator and wash it off really well. Vacuuming will probably do more harm with all the bent fins. The fins have the strength of heavy duty alumimum foil.

Dexcool works fine in my lt4, I think it's bad reputation (on forums) is sort of a combination of "urban legend" and wanting to blame a new product for problems with fans, radiators, thermostats, not bleeding the air out etc.

Ever replaced the stat? I figure that as a maint item ever though it's not listed as such by gm. I figure 50 - 60 k miles is enough for one of those.

If you were previously using Dexcool (orange stuff), then keep it. It wasn't stock until 1996.
