my driver side door won't stay in the open position! what parts do i need? anyone have this problem before. i mean opened all the way to where the door stays by itself.
Addition: if it is just the curly pin, shove an extention or something in the top of the pin, turn to the left and tap up, it should fall right out. To install, do reverse order. :smash:
My 96 has a curved pin in the top hinge that holds the door open. If this is the same for your car, then to remove it:
open the hood, leave the drivers side door closed, (when I did this I marked the assembly’s position with a crayon), remove the six bolts that hold the hinge in place, wiggle it out.
WARNING: You will have to realign the door, not hard, but could pose problems. Do not remove the bottom hinge.
I believe I had to play with the pin (move up and down, there is a notch that holds it in place) to remove it. You should probably check your bushings while you have the hinge out. If you replace them you will need to cut the pivot pin, so you'll need a new one of those as will. Hope this helps, good luck! :smash:
I've got an 86 vette that the drivers door all of a sudden would not stay open. :mad It turned out that there is a hinge spring that catches the clip to hold the door open. The clip is about 1/4" dia and bent on each end opposite of each other. My spring was broken, so I ordered a new spring and the fancy bent screw driver to reinstall the spring. It was really a simple fix. I hope this helps. :D

Re: ? door hinge pin
:iagree: Sounds like you need a new spring. There's a roller that contacts it to allow the door to open smoothly. They usually wear out and lose lubrication, and grind in one spot on the hinge and make creaking noises when closing the door.
