Default POS is leaking rain water

Well, it's been raining for a few days now, and I have over 1" of water sitting in the car....driver and passenger and some in the hatch. I've been battling this crap for months now. I've drilled the hatch so it will drain in the corners, i've drilled the hood latches so they can drain, and Siliconed a ton in the engine side of the firewall.... still leaks. On the driver side, it seems to be coming from under the sill towards the front. the passenger is still a mystery. And yes, i have checked all the cowl drains too, even blew compressed air through them at 80PSI. still leaks. I'm thinking the blower motor housing gasket, and the other one.... on the driver side.... no idea. the hatch is b/c the hatch seal is bad on the corners....slightly. This thing leaks like swiss cheese and leaves no trace. I've checked it out... my gramps, my dad, my friends... I've never seen a car like this.. i've fixed tons of leaks.... but none like this. Any ideas guys??? please...help fast it's supposed to rain in the tampa area for a few days....

You should be like me, my Vette never ever sees rain. The only time my car gets wet is when I have it detailed. My car only sees sunshine and blue skies!! :yesnod:

no, i just put a new interior in. Didn't see any cracks. As i've been seeing some small holes, cracks...any possibility i've been Siliconing them. I JUST NOW, found the drain to the A/C blower/Evaperator container!. It's burried down there. I removed it period.... some crap.. mostly water mixed with the bastard who owned it before me smoked so ash.. had some muddy stuff, and bit of water...but nothing significant. the windshield is cracked, but it's been doing this BEFORE the windshield was cracked. and up there..it's dry as a whistle. I'm gonna check Ebay right now for the WS. Thanks.

POS= piece of poopiee

And as far as any advice- have you recently replaced your roof panel? When I got a new one it was adjusted wrong, so it didn't seal tight against the front weatherstripping. Readjusting the top brackets took care of most of the leak, but it still drips just the littlest bit from the top windshield molding. Maybe you could try removing that piece of molding, which is along the top of the windshield? Maybe water is getting in there and running down the a-pillars, and so on?

well YES i know it is leaking, but i don't have a garage to put it in, and second it's my only car/transportation. I'd love to put it up in a garage and sip on some tea and think about what the problem could be for 4 wks, but i live in a crappy apt complex, work and go to school, i need answers not dreams.

usually its the top seal, dead center. an adjustment can fix it. #2 is the windshield seal. you cant see it though . i leaks in behind the a pillar molding and runs down behind it. usually shows up as drops on the part of the floor that the frame is under.( the raised part on the outside of the seats closest to the door)

Well, one solution, for when it's parked, is get one of the NOAH covers on the forum mall. Best $100 you can spend, it breathes to let moisture OUT, but won't let water IN.. See, you can't use not having a garage as an excuse any more... Except for the fact that you can't DRIVE it with the cover on... But, at least it's small enough to carry around with you!!

Leaking vette, Leaking Apt.. i'm getting agrivated.

Scoob wrote this up a while ago. I followed the procedure and it slowed my leaks. They didn't stop due to the fact I need a pillar weatherstrip.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/zerothread?id=406769

This should help.

Well, since you asked, I think it's because she's PISSED at you for calling her a POS and she's just trying to teach you a lesson. :jester

Do you park on an inclineor level? I'm not certain where the drains are on the coupes, but on C4 verts they are on the forward edge of the rear deck lid channel. If you park nose up, the channel fills up and you have niagra falls on the interior rear storage area. If you snake out the drain holes and park nose down, then you don't have that problem.

Other area is the bottom of the doors. This is where GM really screwed up the design on verts. THe drains are AFT, requiring nose UP to drain. But then the rear deck leaks. The water runs off the roof, down the windows to the inside of the door (the outer felts are not water impenetrable) and there are gaps at the ends and then should drain out the hole at the back of the door. Fundamentally incompatible with nose down parking.

Have you checked the firewall where the wipers park? Those screws holding the wiper park thing should have goopy sealant on them. There are probably other screws in that firewall which might allow leaks if not sealed properly.

Can you tell if it's coming in from the doors? On mine the windows weren't adjusted properly. The water ran along the aft edge of the window and got onto the body door opening on the rear vertical 'wall' where the door latch hooks. the way this is angled the water runs down, and then forward, under the sill and into the front wheel wells. That was a real bugger to try to figure out. Way I finally traced it down was to dry the door opening, stick it in the rain. Carefully open the door and inspect for where it was wet.

Have fun. Water leaks suck big-time. :boxing If all else fails, start calling her your portable shower and she might behave better.

great post man! thanks! Ok, my plan of attack is #1 adjust the targa properly (the car has been hit once before so..) #2 silicone the A/C evaporator/blower motor gasket. #3 door w/s. And then do a soapy water test. That should cure the crapy leaks. I feel much much better now that i have some idea of what to do. I was so ticked earlier... I had "nothing" to do.. i hate just watching a problem. I'll post my update on how it's "not" or "is" leaking.

Where/what is in the "sills"? b/c on the driver side it feels/know it's coming from the under side of the Sill carpet/plastic piece. I park level by the way. Level, no trees. I've siliconed up all the little cracks, screws, w/e in the firewall. sux. tomorrow i'm gonna put a freakin end to this.

Ok, I just adjusted my Targa top. I pulled the front seal back....it was wet under it...so yes it's leaking from front of the targa....and getting UNDER the windshield/pillar seal which IS new and then running down the side of the doors and in. At least I found "a" leak. It did need adjusted, but i'm also going to adjust the brackets ON the car....and Lower the front of the targa creating more Pressure/force downward to seal better. Oh, by the way... as i was finishing the initial adjustments....it starts to pour rain!!!! iritation levels are up. :cuss
