As I was coming home today, my brake pedal went really firm and I can hear a hissing sound, the car is really hard to stop, it feels like I am doing all the work while braking. I didn't get any kind of warning light and no signs of leaking break fluid. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Same thing happened to me. Had to replace power booster unit. easy to do just prepare to become a contortionist to get to the mount bolts under the dash on the firewall. :steering:

:iagree: but before you tear into things, check the vacuum hose from the manifold to the booster. There is an outside chance that you are not pulling enough vacuum.
Boosters usually, but not always, make a "hissing" sound as you apply the brakes (indicating a booster leak) before they go bad.
Are you running headers? They can get hot enough under the hood to melt a nice hole in you power booster. I've gone through two boosters so far. Guess I should probably go ahead and fab up a heat shield.
For the record, my symptoms were identical to yours. It might also be leaking where the large vacuum hose connects from the manifold. Either way, it's probably time for a new booster ($100 from Auto Zone).
