Does anyone know where to get Busch Clear Coat Remover or an alternative for stripping the clear coat off aluminum wheels? I tried usig 5F5 Paint Remover today and it did not work very well.
Has anyone used the clear coat remover from Mid America?
Thanks Jack
I spent hours today and many applications wit out much results.
I'll check out my local autozone. I went there the other day asking them about clear coat remover and they told me they didn't carry any.
I will probably do over the clear coat when I get tired of cleaning them but I want to see the them shine for awhile.

Re: Busch Clear Coat Remover (Jerry D)
 You didn't say which wheels you have
Be prepared to do a lot of sanding once the clear coat is off!
On my 88 17" wheels, I started with 80 grit dry and then worked right through to 1500 grit wet, changing by 100 grit along the way. After1500 grit I used MOTHERS polish
What a PITA!
I guess someday i will have to do my y2k wheels, but I think I will just spend the $ and trade them in :D
I have a 86 with 16" wheels.
I called Autozone they do not carry the Aircraft stripper.
I guess I'll get the kit from Mid America.
Sanding is in my future I guess because I don't have $125 per wheel right now. I have to get my A/C fixed and I'm going to have a front leaf spring installed soon.
Take care Jerry
Most of the stuff at an auto parts discounter is too weak for a baked finish. Look in the Yellow Pages under Auto Body Shop Equipment & Supplies and then visit a local retailer. Tell them your project and they should be able to provide a product that will take it off in a few minutes. If you are going to re-clear, they'll also have the right finish along with the metal conditioner that needs to be applied before spraying.
