Title pretty much says it. I am not having much luck finding a 4 bolt LT-1 block. What is the approx. cost to have the machine work done? Is there any draw back to going with this style of cap. What is the benefit or differences between the materials the splayed caps are made of?
is that including the caps?!? thats really good if so.
i'm doing a 406 myself same way i got the caps off a buddy real cheap. basically all you need done is line honed once the caps are in place and the outer holes drilled. not sure on the price of that, dads gonna do it for me. :chevy how much horse you going for?
My friend looked into it and was quoted about 500 bucks for just the machine work for the caps. I am looking at 400+ horspower N/A and around 600 on the bottle at the flywheel. I may run more if everything works out right!
well since your going to use spray i'd go ahead and do the caps but i'd shop around first that seems high for the work.
milodon caps are $209.95 new, and alot of times the shop will mill the surface of the caps down a couple thousandths then line hone, but i can't see paying more then 200 for the work. are you planning on installing a plug kit in the top of the block? its where you plug the steam holes and tap/install restrictors into the water passages. its fully streetable and stiffens the top of the block alot. 400's tend to crack there if you don't do this. also another good investment is a screen kit in the lifter valley.
Thanks for the numbers. I am using a LT-1 block-no steam holes. I do plan on using the screens. They are just good insurance, and easy to do when the engine is apart.
