Car Turns off while driving!!
My 96 automatic turned off on me 2 times Friday night and almost got me killed 1 time. I was pulling out of a parking lot making a left hand turn onto the Post Road ( Route 1 ) and stalled/car turned off?!? right in the middle of the freaking 2 lanes on the right side. Thank god the guy wasn't flying down the road or me and my passenger were toast.
Next was later that night. I was applying pressure to the brake as I had a red light ahead. I was probably going 30 mph and all of a sudden NO POWER steering, so I slam on the brakes as hard as I could. Put the car in park and Start her back up so I don't get hit.
If anyone has any clues for why this is occuring please let me know!

When was the last time the car was tuned up?? I'd start there if you don't know, could be something as simple as the fuel filter getting clogged up. No check engine light lately or anything??

I had the exact same symptoms. Unfortunately in my case, the water pump was leaking on the opti. You might want to check the coil and ignition module first, both are cheaper and easier to replace than the opti.
Look at the front bottom edge of your water pump. If there are water stains, it's leaking. There is a weep hole underneath the front.

Does anyone have a picture of the location of the Opti Spark and Water pump? Also if you have a picture and location for the Fuel Filter and Pump :confused: It would be appreciated :cheers:
