first corvettei am curious if this car is worth 4500.00, it has 140.000 miles on it body is great needs maybe paint. new tires ,michelins, interior is great except for the drivers seat need redoing, had it checked out mecanically everything seems fit , just a few oil leaks and the fan does not come on at 210, oh needs some exaust work mufflers and y pipe. thanks for any advise. if i buy what bolt on items are good for crossfire inj, for more horses. :troll :auto:
Xfire motor has potential but only for DIY'rs. There were only 2 years of the TBI based motor. Not enough population for tuners to bother with.
Start here http://www.crossfire.webhop.net. Other than the induction system, you'll find the motor to be like any early model small block. Heads, cam, pistons, etc all work.
Sounds like a decent car with minor problems... but considering that you might be able to snag a similar-condition `85+ for a similar price... ? I dunno. I'd keep looking and then low-ball him by $500. Not saying that vette isn't worth it (I'm partial to `84's as well), I just think you could either get more for your money or pay less for that one.
Sounds exactly like my 84 which I bought a little over a year ago. Afetr two months the AC went out, fix and convert to R134, $1000. 6 Months ago the tranny wouldn't shift out of first and had to be rebuilt, had the upgraded factory shift kit while I was at it, $1200. Last month wouldn't start, replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter, $100. Feeling I get when I drive it...priceless!!!!
Long story short, they are money pits from which we will never get our money back out, but it is SOOOOO worth it!!!!!
ENJOY!!!! :steering:
I bougnt my first vette, a 84 a few months ago, been working on it day and night. I just put it on the road last week. I find something to repair just about every day, but when I look out the window or pull into the driveway and see my baby, I have to pinch myself! Oh Ya-------- It's MINE!
Corvette's have cool written all over them! Only you know what to pay for the car. :auto:
you no what i kind of like things that are different, and since they only built the crossfie for 2 years and this is the first of the C4,s i will keep it i think, and the nice thing about this 1984 for 4150.00 yaaaaaa hoooooo is i can get in it and cruise right away, i love it i feel like i am 16 again when i look out in the driveway,i had it doing 120 yesterday and what a rush  :auto:
1. It's essentially a 20 year old car. It WILL have problems. Learn to do all or most of the work yourself, and it will be manageable financially and will be a joy to own. Let a mechanic do it all and it will eat you a new azz.
2. The Crossfire Vettes are not the fastest Vettes ever built. They are not the slowest either. They will also run with or better than 90% of everything built today. As Dom said, they can be made to run with modern Vettes, if you're willing to learn and do some of your own fabbing. Not impossible, but more challenging than a TPI car. And a cared for crossfire is as reliable as any other EFI system. Don't let anyone tell you it isn't. Speed = $$$. How fast do you want to go?
3. The 84 is a tremendous amount of bang for the buck.
4. If the suspension / steering are performing correctly, this car will stick like glue in the twisties. The price you pay for that is that it rides like an empty dump truck. You will FEEL EVERY bump. Get used to it.
5. The car will turn heads everywhere you go. My 84 gets mistaken for a mid 90's Vette by everyone except other Vette owners. If the paint is rough, figure on $3-4K for a good paint job. Find a good paint shop (ask local Vette owners) Strip the car to the fiberglass and start over. You will be glad you did.
6. Welcome to the forum. Great bunch of folks here, their advice has saved me hundreds if not thousands. Don't forget to register and check out the crossfire forum as well. They are the true experts on your unique and sometimes quirky induction system.
Congrats on your new ride. Post some pics of the car.
I must say to all who reply, thanks alot for the advise i just got back in from a drive yaaaaaaahhoooooooooo, took the top of and flew, these are incredible handling cars, the only thing i find wrong is when its warm it seems to hesitate some times when you give it throttle like its starving for fuel , i just changed the fuel filter ,we will see if that helps ,and sugestions what else it might be,
