Default tuning advice

i have a 94 with lt4 383 with a 10 psi blower and tpis headers. 36 lb injectors. crane ign ,hotcam 1.6 rr with a few Q on tuning.

1. with stock maf leave the maf tables alone or adjust. the maf should flow the same correct?

2. closed or open loop. on other boards they reccomend staying in open loop it seems to have its advantages (sems easier to see direct changes)

3. ve tables .is this the place where the most tuning should occur, due to the displacement change and the added effects of the SC?

4. i use tunercat . is there anyplace that has a better explanation of what exactly the tables control. some are obvious but some seem to be misleading as to how they change the parameters.

i have had two different tuners send me files to try. it seems it is very quirky tuning a forced ind engine. i have tried ve master but i think there are other settings causing the whole picture not to be correct. thanks in advance for any light you can shed....

1. Page 'Mo_Bandy' on this board. He has a SC '96 that runs pretty well, & he gives accurate info/advice.

2. Not sure what you are referring to. Why do you want to disable the ECM? Is this a race-only application?

3. Um, AFAIK the VE tables don't go above 100 kpa or 100% VE in a stock GM ECM. They are not tunable for a SC engine, unless you have extensively re-written the code.

4. Why not ask TC about the tables you don't understand? He's very good with customer support.

I didn't know that VEMaster would support MAF or a supercharger. That must be something new.

I haven't worked with LT1 stuff, my answers are based on my MAF L98 experience.

1. Theoretically could use changing, but leave them alone.

2. You can see fueling changes easier in closed loop by locking your BLMs at 128 and watching the integrator. People go open loop only so they can have absolute control of how the engine works - it takes a lot of near perfect tuning though.

3. Don't even want to answer until I see how the car is running.

4. Got to ask - whether on a tuner board or TC. I haven't seen a comprehensive list of tables nd what they do anywhere.

If I remember correctly, your code uses the ve table first and maf as a "backup" for fueling. So you would need to adjust the ve table first to see changes to blm/back to 128.
Without changing the ecm to one that can see more than one bar map (aftermarket or from another forced induction app); you're going to have to add fuel for wot.....In my app I use an fmu; other options would be the Carroll "superfueler" I believe it's called-it has a couple of additional injectors that function related to boost. I realize that these methods have been called a "crutch" method of tuning by some......but short of changing ecms.....
Either way-to safely tune wot in a boosted app-a wideband is a must!
And you can acheive a good f/a ratio this way. Good luck!
Oh yea-under ecm constants-cyl vol is where you want to change for ci of your 383.
