When replacing the Power steering pump after 64K mi should I also replace water pump?
My car has 64,000 miles on it and is a '91 and it looks like I will be needing to replace the power steering pump very soon. How long does a stock water pump usually last? It wouldn't be that hard to fix if I had to make room for a power steering pump right? Anyone have advise as to which pump I should get for the hot summers down here in Houston?

Mine's got more than 90,000 miles on it and I thought it was leaking but it wasn't. Turns out it was the steering rack-to-resovoir pipe, not the pump. Change your PS fluid annually with synth PS fluid and I'll bet you won't have any problems soon.

My water pump went last year at over 100k miles.
If it doesn't make starnge sounds and the weep hole under it is bone dry don't mess with it. Once you toss that "frisbee" from the water pump pulley the water pump is relatively easy to access.
To deal with hot weather install a 160 or 170 deg stat with fan switch, clean debris from between the radiator and the A/C condensor and flush the the cooling system.
