I just put my 84 on the road last week. I've been driving it locally and not on the highway. Today I finally took the car to work and noticed the temperature reached 219 on the way home from work. I drove the car about 10 miles on the turnpike atnormal speed. When I reached the local roads the temperature went down to 200-205. Is this normal temperature for my car?
Thank you,
Brimis :auto:
Sounds about right. The 84 I had did the same thing. The fan won't even come on till it reaches 225. It has a 195 thermastat in it and was designed to run at those temps.
Yep... thats about where my 84 runs. Closer to 200 when I'm doing 70 on the highway, up to 215-219 on the backroads. When I sit in traffic for awhile, it usually gets up in the 220's and will occasionally hit 230 before the fan comes on and doesn't shut back off till it's around 217...

:yesnod: of course, a lower stat and ground-out relay switch will lower those considerably.
 Give me time... only had it a month. Thats actually one of the first things on my list of to-do items. At least for awhile, it's going to remain pretty much stock and the wife and I are planning on using it for weekend trips. Lowering the temp is one of my priorities as well as a new fuel pump and a new serpentine belt... from there, we'll see what happens. :)
