I've read where the GM upgraded it to a higher output coil in 96' don't have any specific numbers though.

The '96 one supposedly has slightly better output at the very high end, like over 5500rpm or something. Nothing a set of good low resistance pluig wires and coil wire couldn't help compensate for with the '92 - '95 coil :yesnod:
I've heard that if you run one of the after market very high output coils on an LT1 or LT4 it can cause carbon tracking to start building up in the opti spark distributor.
