If any of you have ever driven a Honda with the VTEC, the 50 shot kinda feels like the VTEC kicking in. A small push into the seat, but nothing exciting. Seems to pull slightly faster through the rpms. I can slightly feel the N2O turn off (power loss) at 5000 rpm right before it shifts. The tach shows I shift right into 3300 rpm and start all over again.
I purged the line right before I nail it so I dont have air in the system and with 100* ambient TX weather the heater was off and bottle pressure was around 1000-1100. FP was around 45 PSI at WOT.
Does this sound about right for a 50 shot and my setup? I just wanted to run this by you guys before I change the jets. What do you think?
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (VetteNoob)
The 4 degrees of retarded timing seems a bit much for a 50 shot. I'm spraying a 150 shot on a LT1 with 5 degrees retard. Perhaps someone with some more L98 knowledge will chime in soon.
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (95AquaC4)
I would say it is too, but Im planning on bumping it to a 100 shot and didnt feel like adjusting the timing 2X so I left it at 4*. The car has 100k+ on it so I wanted to be sure it didnt go lean from the n2o.
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (VetteNoob)
I intalled the TNT plate setup on my '96. With the 75hp jets in it gained about 60RWHP on the dyno and was running off scale rich.
When I got home I put in the 100hp N2O jets and left the fuel jets at 75hp. Completely different animal now. It pulls extremely hard on the nitrous now.
Making sure the bottle pressure is correct (900-1000psi) and getting the air/fuel ratio close to right (try to stay a little rich) will make a big difference in the power.
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (Dan Parker '96)
Typically you don't need to pull any timing out until you get around 100 or better shot. Put the timing back in it and let it bump. Also, bottle pressure is critical, as is fuel pressure. Your bottle should be between 900-1000 like is said above; any more and you'll be lean, any less and you'll be fat. Your fuel pressure for a NX kit (and generally for an NOS as well) should be around 50...The jets for these kits are flowed for 55-58 psi; that's on the fat side to be safe. You're a little lean at 45 psi but with only a 50 shot you won't have any problems anyway. Bump your jets to the 100 pill, pull only two degrees out and put the f.p. at 50...A little octane booster or VP PU (Performance Unleaded) will give you a little extra insurance as well. You'll definitely feel the power then. Your window switch settings are pretty good for a TPI; generally nitrous mills need to shift a couple of hundred rpm less than what you would normally shift at n/a. I shift at 7k on nitrous and 7.5k on motor in my car... I would say 3000 and 5000 are pretty good but if you have a 4800 chip try it too...you may be surprised you'll pick up a little more ET...

I have been told different than this by NX. The kit for the Corvette (standard GM EFI kit) is rated for approximately 45psi according to Brian at NX. Any more pressure and you will run the kit even fatter than it is already jetted. With 45psi of fuel pressure mine runs considerably fat and always has with any engine combo I run. That is with bottle pressure between 950-1100 psi. Obviously it is less rich on the higher psi spectrum.
Vettenoob, looks good and sounds like it is working to me. A 50 shot gives me a very slight improvement in rpm climb rate.
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (VetteNoob)
Some more info to add aftern this mornings test.
I put in the 100 shot pills. Did not notice any 'significant' change in performance. Feels the same as the 50 shot so Im thinking maybe the 50 shot feel was 'mental'. I guess Im going to have to plug the fuel solenoid, pull the fogger nozzle and test fire the n20 solenoid to make sure it is spraying. The slight difference I feel may at this point be added fuel to the system since all the tests have been done at 60-90 mph and the added fuel may be what is causing the performance increase at WOT.
Once I get the system verified as working with the 4* timing, I may bump it to 6* and see how she runs.

Why would you want to do that? I'm running a 100 shot and not pulling any, I've shot 125 without pulling any. If you don't need to pull it why would you want to pull it or to pull more then they tell you to? You're just killing the power you would be getting.. Just my $.02
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (VetteNoob)
Check your fuel pressure safety switch and verify it is adjusted properly. When I first installed my system I had more problems than I care to discuss with the system fluttering on and off because of the FPSS set too high.
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (Vette92)
If the nitrous solenoid was not working, you would know it. The car will fall flat on its face. It will be blowing black smoke and running extremely rich. Try closing your nitrous bottle and run it. You will see what I mean. You should definately be able to tell the 100 shot is in it, unless it is way to rich with fuel. I have forgotten to open my remote bottle opener, and when I floor it, it's like hitting the brakes. FYI, I use a 150 shot and retard the timing 4 degrees. Good luck.
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (Vette92)
Im suspecting it was the FP switch. I think the preceived increase was all mental. Adjusted the FP switch. Bumped my timing to 5-6*. Rejetted for a 50 shot. I'll see how it does tomorrow morning. Hope the weather holds out. It was supposes to sotrm today, but never did.
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (VetteNoob)
VetteNoob:
What you need to do is install solenoid lights (Hidden in through the vent, at least on my 93). It makes it real obvious to see the nitrous and fuel solenoids on, as it lights the light.
Thats how I know my FPSS, WOT, and window switches are all working properly. makes things waay easier.
Also, I had the same impressions as you ( I have the NX GM EFI). Not impressed with the 50 shot. Only noticed an improvement when accelerating in first. The 75 shot, I noticed more, but was not like what I was expecting. I could barely feel an improvement when on the highway (in addition to starting off in first).
The 100 shot made more of a difference. And this happens to be the highest I will run on it. I was running 2 degrees timing retard through MSD digital 6 plus.
I am not planning on running any timing retard with my 100 shot since the MSD digital 6 plus keep malfunctioning and cause my car to die.
Hopefully nothing bad will happen. I have an Ed Wright custom chip.
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (dizwiz24)
Man I should have thought of that before I wired everything up nice and neat. Im still tinkering and Ive verified that it sprays at 3k rpm with the fogger our of the car so maybe Im just not feeling the 50 shot hitting. Maybe I need more bottle pressure since it has only been at 900psi. Just gonna keep tinkering with it I guess....
Re: Finally used the bottle today...initial thoughts (VetteNoob)
About the timing retard:
I am running an NX 100 shot on a 93 LT-1.
I didnt see any knock retard on the dyno in 90F weater, 93 octane gas, ed wright custom fast chip, and 100 shot wet NX shot (slighty leaner than recommended by using the 31 instead of recommended 33 size fuel-side jets for the 100 shot on a 93 Corvette LT-1). I was running app. 11.4 : 1 A/F ratio as measured on the wide band O2 sensor.
So, I dont think you will need any knock retard at a 100 shot, as long as you dont get bad gas. To be totally safe, you can run a can of octane boost.
I've heard when going over a 100 shot (125, 150, etc. retard timing 2 degrees for every 25 HP of shot over a 100 shot on an NX wet system).
The issue with timing retard systems is this. The MSD digital 6 plus has cause me so much problems (failing in traffic, etc) that I cant deal with its inreliability on a street/strip car, so I am simply not going to use this.
