when i set mine originally, I went to zero lash and then went 1/4 turn, i had tried 3/4 turn first but thought thath it was too much, now I'm thinking that 1/4 turn is too much, its popping into the intake and the headers :mad
what do you guys think greg
When you adjust your rockers, you are really adjusting the preload of the plunger in the hydraulic lifter. What rocker the nut is above makes little difference. A 1/4 turn shouldn't be too much, unless you're looking for the last 20 rpms before they pump up. If it is popping, anywhere, review your proceedure. Good luck, and...
I have roller rockers and I followed the procedure in the GM manual. Insure that the both the intake and the exhaust valves are closed or follow the procedure in the manual that will tell you exactly what valves are closed when piston #1 is at top dead center ect.ect.. Hand tighten the nut while twisting the push rod until the push rod stops turning. Then turn the nut 3/4 of a turn.
I go between 1/2 & 3/4 turns from zero lash, that way any small inaccuracy in determining zero lash is still within acceptable preload range.
I assure the valve is fully closed and then do a static adjustment:
-turn the crank till an exhaust valve is opening and set the intake lash
-turn the crank till an intake valve is closing and set the exhaust lash
My ProMagnums are quieter and smoother than the stock rockers.
