maf testing
a digital metter should show readings between
.4 Volts @ idle, 5 Volts @ Full Throttle.
a quick visual check should show
the hair thin wire inside the MAF should turn red hot for just a second or so after the key is turned off after the cars been running awhile

Your 85 doesn't have a burn-off relay, instead it has a burn off module behind the bread box. Test the wire first by turning ign on position ( car not running) then jumper the A and Eor F ( top row second from end) and turn ign off, wire should glow for 4 sec. To do this just set the MAF on the plenum.
mine ended up being the plug, i had to tighten up the positive connection place with a small screw driver.
