Default Re: Internal Vs externally balanced crank (Eduardo L98 1991)

First, internally balanced crank will rev a little better than externally balanced set up. This is largely due to NOT having a bob wieght spinning on the spout of the crankshaft.

Secondly, internally balanced cranks will balance to a bob weight. There is a special formula so it not just the wieght of all the components put together. A crank that is sold as internally balance merely means that a nominal rotating assemly can be balanced. It took $125 (included heavy metal) to internally balanced mine.

Finally as for rods, H-beam rods are normally heavier than I beam rods. Which means it would be more difficult to balance internal. you'll want to select components at the manufactuer's intended bob wieght.
