this only has happened to me one other time before. i get in the car and do everything like normal. buckle up and all, then i try to start the car. it turns over fine and barely starts. then dies. almost like i didnt hold the starter long enough. well i try again and it wont start. gotta turn it over and over for like 15 secs and then eventually it'll start. when it does, it tries to die out again , but doesnt. after it finally gets running up to normal rpms, it smokes alot, like it's running super rich. any ideas? like i said, it aint a bad prob. only happened twice now, but id like to fix it so i can feel safe it wont leave me stranded somewhere. it normally fires up as soon as i touch the starter. any ideas fellas? thanks  s
Hmmm, hard to tell from that. It could be the starter/solenoid, but the running rich problem would lead me to believe you have some fuel problem, like bad injectors or fuel pump or fuel filter.
Black smoke after it finally starts and runs is a symptom of a leaky injector. One easy test is when it won't start, hold the accelerator to the floor while cranking which shuts off the injectors and allows the engine to clear itself of a rich mixture. Then try a normal start again or while still cranking, let off of the accelerator. When it won't start, put a fuel pressure gauge on the shrader valve on the fuel rail and turn on the ignition for longer than 2 seconds which will run the fuel pump for 2 seconds. Turn the ignition off and observe how long it takes to lose 1 psi. If you have a leaky injector, it will leak down rapidly, if not 10-30 minutes.
